Lab Results

The doctor called with the lab results yesterday. They didn't point to anything one thing in particular. Scarlett's got a low bicarbonate count. Bicarbonate is a chemical in the blood that helps keep the blood from being too basic or acidic. Since her count is low, it means she's got acidic blood (which, whenever I think about it, in my head I sing "you've got acid in your blood, Mr. Griiii-iiiinch!"). A normal bicarbonate level is 24, she's at 18. Low, but not dangerously low, and better than the last tests, which were at 17 and 13. The doc is going to do one more test on the pee that was collected from the bags, and he's emailed a kidney doctor specialist friend to see where we should go from here. We still don't know if the high count is a metabolic issue and her body is unable to process the food she's getting, or a kidney issue with her kidneys unable to flush out what they need to flush out.

I asked Scarlett what she has to say about all this, and this was her reply:

5yv . ,,mgfks h mpgg4r5tr3jhytty57554b uiyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyfvj9=========== y56ytye juvvtrnh

(She loves the keyboard and tries to help me type all the time.)

She does keep gaining weight, though, which is good. On Thursday, she was up to 11 lbs 15 oz, which is 7 oz more than the week before, and which also means that soon she'll be able to fit into all the size 2 diapers that Mark's mom has gotten us. (They're for 12-18 lbs, I think.)

That's all for now.
