It's been a long couple days for me and my Little Miss. She's totally crashed on my lap right now, and rightly so! I called the nurse line yesterday afternoon to ask about Scarlett's acid reflux, which seems to have gotten worse lately. She's been arching her back, kicking out her legs and screaming with her feedings, which are the same symptoms that got her diagnosed with reflux. She's also been spitting up more and eating less. The nurse said to bring her on in, they had an opening. So in we went.

We saw a different doctor than we usually see. After some questioning and poking at Scarlett's stomach, he told me he doubts she even has reflux(!) and thinks she either has kidney or metabolism problems based on the lab work that was done a month and a half ago. Scarlett's regular doc said those labs showed either something bad or that she wasn't getting enough nutrients because of my low milk supply. We started Scarlett on formula and redid the labs a couple days later, and they showed improvement, so the doc figured that things were off because she was basically malnourished.

The new doc sent us over to the lab right away to repeat the blood work and get a urine sample. Only the urine sample and the blood draw had to happen within an hour of each other so the doc could compare the results and try to figure out what's going on. There was no use in getting a blood sample until they had a urine sample, so Scarlett had a bag stuck to her (at the doc's office) to try and catch her pee. They cut a little hole in her diaper and pulled the bag through so it would be easy too see when she peed. Only the bag wasn't attached right. So we waited for the bag to fill, only she peed and it spilled into her diaper. And since her diaper had been cut, there were those diaper crystals spilling out everywhere. Boo.

By this time, it was time for the lab to close, so we were told to come back this morning. We left the house about 9:20, got to the lab by 9:30. I timed it out so she'd be hungry once we got there and had a new bag on. Scarlett got her bag and we were taken to a little room to basically wait for Scarlett to pee. By 10:20, she had peed, but again, the bag wasn't put on right, so it got in her diaper and not the bag. Thankfully there was enough dribble in the bag that they could do one of the tests (the one that needed to coincide with the blood draw), so we were taken to another room for the blood draw. They tried to draw some from her thumb, but it wasn't working so well, so they had to use a vein in her hand. Two pricks in one day is hard on a girl! She was screaming and sweating and NOT happy about what was going on. They still needed a larger urine sample for another one of the tests, so the lab tech called the doctor to ask what to do , since it was so hard to get a sample form her. They ended up sending me home (at 11:40) with a couple bags and a specimen cup for collection. They needed an amount that was large enough that it usually takes a couple pees to get the full amount.

We came home, I put a bag on her, and no more than 10 minutes later she peed (nice work!) and she even peed an amount that was probably enough for the test, but I thought I'd wait for one more pee just to make sure. So Scarlett got a fresh bag, and we only had to wait about 20 more minutes before she had a HUGE pee (twice the amount needed for the test). So I sealed it all up and dropped it off at the lab.

Scarlett's totally worn out from all this (and me, too)! Hopefully the lab result will give some insight into what's causing her to have tummy trouble, and whatever it is will be an easy fix (the doc said that, depending on the lab results, it could be as easy as switching formulas). So for now we just wait on the results, and rest in knowing that God has His hand this.

I'm thinking of you! Hallie had to have those bags stuck to her several times...she seems to get bladder infections easily. I think that was the worst part...and I can only imagine how uncomfortable! Keep us all posted!

dang what a rough day! Jason and I will be praying for you guys that it all works out ok. Maybe it will even just take switching to a cheaper formula!

Also, some days I wish I had a little lower milk supply as I just collected half an ounce of milk leaking because James is feeding from the other side. it makes public feedings so dang messy!
